Caveat emptor! Buyer beware. All wood chip is not the same. Just because it looks like wood chip doesn’t mean your boiler will be able to burn it efficiently, or even at all. Over many years we have seen many wood chip boiler owners “burned” by the experience of purchasing wood chip that doesn’t meet the boiler specification, most commonly too wet. However, you don’t need to be an expert in order to recognise good quality wood chip. In Ireland we have the Wood Fuel Quality Assurance Scheme (WFQA). Only suppliers of top-quality wood chip (and other wood fuels) make it onto this register. Purchase your wood chip from WFQA accredited suppliers only to ensure your boiler gets the correct fuel and you can focus on your business.
Clearpower have been WFQA certified for the production and supply of air-dried wood chip since 2016 and we are recertified on an annual basis provided we demonstrate continued compliance with the rules of the scheme. Our Fuels Operations Manager, Paul Entwistle, was presented with our latest certificate of registration to the WFQA scheme at the Ploughing Championship in Co. Carlow on September 18th. The above photo shows Paul receiving the certificate from Sean Finan, CEO of IrBEA.
